Woman reported missing in Iowa 14 years ago found alive in another state

DES MOINES, Iowa — The Des Moines Police Department announced on Tuesday that a woman who was reported missing 14 years ago has been found alive in another state.

According to the DMPD, the case began back in 2011 when a then 54-year-old woman was reported missing. The DMPD said the woman and her partner came from South Carolina and were visiting family in southern Iowa. During the trip, the woman became separated from her partner and disappeared.

The DMPD said that at the time there were few details surrounding the woman’s disappearance, and with no evidence of a crime and no leads, the case went cold, and the woman was entered into the nationwide missing person database.

Following a scheduled audit of the Communications Center the case was sent to a detective and investigative assistant. The two dug into the case and, thanks to advancements in technology, followed leads that eventually led them to Nebraska, where they located the missing woman alive and safe…
