DES MOINES, Iowa — A Des Moines man was sentenced Thursday after admitting to placing pipe bombs on a Des Moines golf course this summer.
The incident occurred on July 10 at Waveland Golf Course, which was evacuated and shutdown after an improvised explosive device, IED, was found on the course. The DMPD Bomb Squad was called in to investigate and determined the device was a pipe bomb, authorities state.
During the investigation 41-year-old Michael Valento was identified and later arrested after a search warrant of his home revealed items related to the incident, according to the DMPD. Court records state Valento also placed and detonated a pipe bomb on the Waveland Golf Course a week prior to the July 10 incident.
At the time of his arrest, Valento was charged with two counts of Possession of an Explosive or Incendiary Device with Intent, First-Degree Arson, Third-Degree Arson, and Dominion or Control of a Firearm/Offensive Weapon by a Domestic Abuse Offender…
