Polk County celebrates record Adoption Day with 75 children joining new families

DES MOINES, Iowa — Saturday marks National Adoption Day, a nationwide effort to raise awareness about the need for safe, loving and permanent homes for more than 100,000 children waiting to be adopted in the U.S. That includes many children in Iowa, and Polk County celebrated a day early.

This year is the 22nd annual Polk County Adoption Day celebration, an event where the Polk County Juvenile Court focuses on finalizing as many adoptions as possible. On Friday, 75 children were adopted into 48 families, a record for the event.
