Proposed Johnston sports complex faces foreclosure

JOHNSTON, Iowa — The proposed Ignit sports complex in Johnston is facing foreclosure following years of delays.

Lincoln Savings Bank foreclosed on $1.95 million in loans issued in 2023 and 2024, court documents show. The bank claims that property developer Chad O’Meara and others did not make payments on loans, interest and fees totaling $3.6 million.

The Johnston Ignit Sports Complex was supposed to be part of a “expansive recreation project” in Johnston’s Gateway District, which is just north of I-35/80 on Merle Hay Road. An adjacent development project, a Bombers golf facility, was slated to finish in summer 2025 but is also delayed…
