Madison County opens audit bids as costs and oversight questions mount

MADISON COUNTY, Iowa– The Madison County Board of Supervisors gathered for their regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, just days after holding a last-minute closed session in which Supervisors Heather Stancil and Jessica Hobbs voted to allocate an additional $50,000 for outside legal counsel.

During Tuesday’s meeting, a citizen voiced his frustration over the rising expenses.

“You really think it’s intelligent for a county that has 16,500 people to spend $200,000 towards the legal system? What the hell are you thinking? And what the hell is going on?,” asked Winterset resident Joel Mitchell during the public comment portion…
