Johnston Residents Encouraged to Participate as Special Census Resumes

After the federal government reopened, the U.S. Census Bureau restarted its Special Census operations in Johnston. Census workers are visiting homes of residents who did not complete the Special Census online. These workers carry official identification and ask questions about the number of people in the household and their ages. If no one is home, they leave a note with a phone number so residents can respond by phone.

The Special Census is important for Johnston. An increase of 2,400 residents since 2020 could provide the city with an additional $320,000 each year for infrastructure projects, such as road repairs.
