Motorcycle Crash Claims Teen’s Life; Driver Held on Multiple Charges

A southeast Iowa man is facing multiple serious charges following a deadly motorcycle crash in Des Moines this past September.

According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, 23-year-old Kaelin Meinders of Albia struck a teenage boy as he was crossing a street, resulting in the young victim’s death. Emergency responders attempted lifesaving measures, but the boy was later pronounced deceased at a local hospital.

Authorities say Meinders now faces charges including homicide by vehicle–reckless driving, operating while under the influence (second offense), and being a person ineligible to carry dangerous weapons…
