DMPD reports multiple crashes on I-235 as snow begins falling

DES MOINES, Iowa — The Des Moines Police Department says multiple crashes have occurred along Interstate 235 as snow begins falling in the metro.

Around 4:30 p.m. the DMPD and DMFD were called to the scene of a multi-vehicle crash between E. 14th Street and 2nd Avenue.

Snowfall to hit Iowa hard, with over a foot possible in some areas

One injury has been reported due to the crashes and one crash involved four vehicles, Des Moines police say.

Authorities and officials say travel conditions will deteriorate as the snow continues throughout the warning period. If travel is essential, drivers are encouraged to slow down, give more distance between cars, and not drive distracted or impaired.

As of 7 p.m., the City of Des Moines has also placed a Snow Ordinance for Snow Routes in effect. This means no parking is allowed along Snow Routes, find a list of the routes here…
