PLEASANT HILL, Iowa — An accident involving a train and a car forced the closure of a road in Pleasant Hill on Tuesday morning.
NE 56th Street was reopened shortly after 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, after being closed from NE 23rd Avenue (Easton Boulevard) to NE Metro East Driv because of the accident, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.

The closure was caused by a crash involving a car and a train in the 1800 block of NEW 56th Street. The PCSO said a 33-year-old woman was driving southbound and slowed while approaching the railroad crossing, then drove onto the tracks as the train was approaching. The crossing has signage and red flashing warning lights, but does not have crossing arms.
Minor damage was reported to the vehicle. The driver refused medical treatment at the scene. The PCSO said the crew of the Iowa Interstate Railroad train did not report any injuries from the incident.
