All Des Moines pools will remain open in 2026 despite budget concerns

DES MOINES, Iowa — In some good news for those wishing for warmer weather, all five Des Moines pools will remain open next summer despite previous budget concerns.

Des Moines Parks and Recreation made the announcement on Monday, adding that the pools will be under a rotating closure schedule to keep the department within its operating budget and ensure every facility is fully staffed.

One day a week, a location will be closed during the 2026 season; however, special programming, such as swim lessons, will not be affected. In addition, all pools will be open on Saturdays and Sundays…
