WINTERSET, Iowa (WHO) — In a split vote Tuesday night, the Madison County Board of Supervisors approved a three-year contract with an out-of-state CPA firm, choosing it over the Iowa State Auditor’s Office for the county’s required annual audit. The decision comes nearly three months after the county chose to solicit bids from private firms amid concerns voiced by the board chair.
Mauldin & Jenkins Certified Public Accountants, of Atlanta, Georgia, was reportedly the only outside bidder and offered a lower annual price than the State Auditor’s Bid. However, the firm also proposed far fewer work hours to complete the job. Therefore, when the bid quotes were broken down into cost per hour, the State Auditor’s bid appeared to be more economical.
