Wanted Altoona man in custody following overnight police chase

DES MOINES, Iowa — The Des Moines Police Department apprehended a wanted Altoona man following a police chase early Wednesday morning.

The DMPD says around 3 a.m. patrol officers attempted to stop a Hyundai Santa Fe in the 1400 block of SE 14th Street after being alerted that the vehicle was displaying plates that had been reported stolen.

The driver refused to stop and began a pursuit; the DMPD says around 17 minutes later the driver lost control and crashed, disabling the vehicle. The driver then fled the scene but was tracked and apprehended by K-9 Zarko.

DMPD officers took 40-year-old Edward Minnis into custody. At the time of his arrest officers say he was found in the possession of methamphetamine and marijuana. The DMPD has charged Minnis with,

  • 5th Degree Theft
  • Eluding
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance – Meth
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance – Marijuana
  • Parole Violation Warrant
  • Speeding, Over 25 Over Limit
  • Driving While Barred
  • Fraudulent Use of Registration
  • Failure to Obey Traffic Control Device
