DES MOINES, Iowa — Three weather impact alert days are ahead of us as freezing temperatures and snowy conditions will soon hit the metro. Polk County activated its Extreme Temperature Plan for Friday through Monday, and health officials told Local 5 there are a few key things you should keep in mind while navigating these conditions.

Preventing frostbite
Addie Olson, the public health communications officer for the Polk County Health Department, said frostbite becomes a bigger threat during single-digit and negative temperatures.
“When it’s five degrees outside, it can take just 30 minutes for frostbite to set in,” Olson said. “So definitely limit your time outside.”…
