Clearing Snow Around Hydrants Important for Fire Safety

With the heavy snow of winter affecting the area, the City of Indianola wants to remind residents to clear the snow around fire hydrants as well as clearing the driveway and sidewalks. Per the fire code, residents must clear a five foot radius around any nearby fire hydrants, and doing so can save precious seconds or even minutes if the hydrant is buried and unseen in the event of a fire.

The Indianola Police Department issued 35 tickets and towed three vehicles for violations of the snow ordinance over the weekend. The City issues a proactive notification of their snow ordinance going into effect if the forecast indicates two inches of snow or more is probable, and is in place until streets are plowed and cleared…
