Waukee Elementary School employee accused of being intoxicated while caring for children

WAUKEE, Iowa — A Waukee Elementary School employee was arrested on Monday after allegedly being intoxicated while caring for roughly 30 kids.

According to court records, officers responded to the elementary school at around 5:38 p.m. Monday after administrative staff reported that an employee appeared to be intoxicated, telling officers that the employee was “wobbling and not acting right.”

When officers arrived, court records say the employee, identified as Ashlie Marie Dooley, walked away from the officers and administrative staff, and locked herself in a bathroom. Officers were later able to gain entry to the bathroom and take Dooley into custody, court records say.

In a criminal complaint, officers said they smelled alcohol coming from Dooley and said that when inspecting her water bottle they saw “that it was full with what appeared to be white wine.” Staff also reported to officers that Dooley allegedly exhibited impaired balance, slurred speech, and smelled alcohol on her, the complaint states.

During the initial investigation, officers determined that about 30 children were in the care of Dooley while she was allegedly impaired, according to a criminal complaint.
