DES MOINES, Iowa — A Des Moines road has been closed as firefighters battle a house fire near Jefferson Elementary School.
At around 1 p.m. Tuesday, the Des Moines Fire Department responded to a report of a house fire in the 2400 block of Watrous Avenue. According to the Des Moines Police Department, witnesses reported hearing explosions and seeing some smoke coming from the home.
Overnight closures on I-35 between Ankeny and Huxley
The DMPD said the fire was contained to the home and that no injuries were reported.
