A potent wave of low pressure will move through northern Minnesota Thursday, delivering strong wind, colder air, and snow to southern Minnesota and north Iowa. There is the potential roads, mainly untreated roads, turn icy Thursday afternoon to evening due to this mix of wintry weather.
Before the colder air arrives, rain is likely late Wednesday night to early Thursday morning. Rain will be moving east of us by 7 AM Thursday morning. We’ll catch a break from precipitation from about 7 AM until about 10 AM Thursday before colder air, strong wind, and occasional snow crashes into southeast Minnesota and north Iowa.
As this combination of wind, cold air, and occasional snow arrives, some roads may quickly turn icy Thursday afternoon to evening. Additionally, there may be occasional, heavier snow squalls which will briefly limit visibility and make for some quick accumulations of a half inch to an inch of snow. There is a lot of uncertainty in the development of these snow squalls, but there is the potential and it is something to watch out for Thursday afternoon. It is likely there will at least be snow showers with parts of southeast Minnesota and a little bit of north Iowa receiving snowfall accumulations of a half inch or less…
