Graffiti, Racial Slurs, and Damage to Historic Landmark Lead to Charges in Winterset

WINTERSET, Iowa — Five individuals have been charged following an act of vandalism at the historic Clark Tower in Winterset City Park, according to the Winterset Police Department. The damage was discovered after officers responded to a vandalism report on November 23, 2025.

Police say spray paint was applied to all three levels of the stone tower, causing extensive damage that will require significant time and labor to remove. The graffiti included phone numbers, racial slurs, names, and inappropriate drawings, officials said.
