New Iowa law clears way for fireworks on New Years

DES MOINES, Iowa — A new state law that went into effect earlier this year loosened restrictions for setting off fireworks on New Years Eve.

Governor Kim Reynolds signed a law in May that prevents local governments from banning or restricting fireworks on July 3rd and 4th and December 31st.

The Des Moines City Council had previously banned the use of fireworks within city limits, but officials have since updated the city ordinance to comply with state regulations…
