Flu spike hits Iowa: Health officials report ‘very high’ activity

[DES MOINES, Iowa] — Iowa is experiencing a significant increase in flu cases, according to the latest report from the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services.

The report indicates that flu activity in Iowa is now classified as “very high,” with a more than 13-point rise in positive lab-tested results as the year ends.

“This is one level of activity higher than what they reported on last week’s report that was high activity,” Public Health Director Kaitlin Emrich said. “We moved to very high this week and that’s based on surveillance data that comes from participating laboratories and clinical settings around the state so that could be whether it’s an emergency room, hospital, a participating outpatient clinic, things like that.”…
