Iowa Migrant Movement for Justice holds emergency vigil, training

DES MOINES, Iowa — Iowa Migrant Movement for Justice held and emergency vigil and a training on how to be a legal observer Thursday evening following the killing of Renee Nicole Goode by an ICE agent in Minneapolis.

Lucas Asbury, the managing attorney for Iowa Migrant Movement for Justice, said that the event had two purposes.

“Tonight, we had a meeting to train people to be conservative. Excuse me. Tonight we had a meeting to train people to be legal observers, as well as to hold a vigil for Ms. Goode, who was killed yesterday in Minneapolis. I, as legal observers, are not protesters in any way. They’re not practicing civil obedience. They’re taking documentation of what is happening in these tense moments,” Asbury said.
