IOWA (KCAU) — Last year will go in the record books for trumpeter swans in the Hawkeye State.
In 2025, Iowa’s trumpeter swans attempted a record 158 nests. Native to Iowa, and the state’s largest waterfowl to boot, trumpeter swans were once common, but wiped out of the state by the 1880s. A nationwide survey in the early 1930s found only 69 trumpeter swans left in the continental U.S.
