Snow amounts increased slightly with tonight’s system

We continue to track a pair of weather systems that will move through the region over the next couple of days. The main update this afternoon is a slightly higher potential for localized snow accumulations with the first system, especially across parts of southern Minnesota and northern Iowa. Newer data suggests colder air may arrive a bit sooner and heavier precipitation could help cool temperatures faster, allowing rain to change to snow earlier in some locations. While neither system looks like a major winter storm, minor travel impacts remain possible, particularly during the rain-to-snow transition late Thursday into Friday morning.

System #1: Late Thursday and Thursday night into Friday morning

The first system is moving through the area today and tonight and continues to look more rain than snow overall. Precipitation will be focused mainly along and south/east of Minnesota Highway 60, or roughly a line from the Twin Cities to Mankato to Windom to Sioux City, Iowa.
