DES MOINES, Iowa — Authorities have released the name of the man who died in a crash during a police pursuit early Thursday morning.
At around 12:15 a.m. officers with the Des Moines Police Department were monitoring a location in the area of 21st Street and Forest Avenue that the DMPD says was known for recent illegal firearm and drug activity. The officers observed a vehicle leave the area and commit multiple traffic violations, the DMPD said.

The officers followed the vehicle and attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the DMPD says the driver refused to stop and fled.
The DMPD said the vehicle fled eastbound on University Avenue at a high rate of speed. The driver lost control of the vehicle, crossed the median and the westbound lanes of traffic before crashing into a tree in the 1400 block of University Avenue, the DMPD said…
