Southeast Minnesota and North Iowa brace for peak energy alert amid cold snap

AUSTIN, Minn. — Mower Electric Cooperative, MiEnergy Cooperative, and People’s Energy Cooperative will issue a peak energy alert starting Monday at 7 a.m. due to expected extreme cold and increased demand on the regional grid.

Members in the Dual Fuel Energy Management Program will experience effects from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m.

To conserve electricity, members are advised to set heating systems to at least 68 degrees, close window coverings, run dishwashers and laundry later, use microwaves instead of ovens, and postpone charging electric vehicles…
