DES MOINES, Iowa — Two people have been charged in connection with a shooting that injured a bystander, after gunfire erupted during a private event hosted at the Wellmark Urban Dreams Community Center in the River Bend neighborhood Saturday night.
Sgt. Paul Parizek, Public Information Officer for the Des Moines Police Department, said officers responded to the 1600 block of 2nd Avenue just after 10:30 p.m. after receiving multiple calls about gunfire.

When they arrived, officers found a 26-year-old man who had been shot in the lower leg. Police said the man was in a nearby food vending truck that was hit by multiple gunshots. The man was struck by one round and transported to MercyOne in Des Moines for treatment.
During the investigation, two people attempted to flee the scene and were taken into custody. Sgt. Parizek said a 15-year-old male with a handgun in his possession was referred to Polk County Juvenile Courts on charges of interference with official acts with a weapon. Twenty-two-year-old James H.
