Des Moines police investigate death possibly linked to cold exposure

DES MOINES, Iowa — The Des Moines Police Department says it is investigating a death possibly caused by cold exposure.

DMPD officers and DMFD medics were called to a trailer park in the 3800 block of SE 14th Street shortly after 11 a.m. Thursday to investigate a person who was “down.” Upon arrival, first responders found a 51-year-old male deceased.

Des Moines police say the man was discovered by maintenance workers in an exterior carport-style space of a vacant trailer. Authorities say the preliminary investigation of the scene found no obvious signs of traumatic injury or any indication of criminal circumstances that would be contributed to the death.
