After 10-year probe and five malpractice claims, board gives Iowa doctor a warning

DES MOINES, Iowa (IOWA CAPITAL DISPATCH) – After a 10-year investigation and five malpractice claims, the Iowa Board of Medicine has issued a warning to a Des Moines surgeon accused of incompetence and unprofessional and unethical conduct.

In 2025, the Iowa Board of Medicine charged Dr. Michael J. Page, a Des Moines surgeon specializing in colon and rectal surgery, with professional incompetence for failure to exercise in a substantial respect the degree of care which is ordinarily expected of the average physician.

The board also charged Page with unprofessional and unethical conduct by committing disruptive behavior through a pattern of contentious, threatening, or intractable behavior that could interfere with patient care or the effective functioning of health care staff…
