Iowa Weekly Weather Outlook: Feb. 6–14

National forecast guidance from the Climate Prediction Center continues to show a strong temperature contrast across the United States heading into the second week of February, with warmer-than-normal conditions favored across the western U.S. and colder-than-normal conditions favored across much of the eastern half of the country.

Both the 6–10 day and 8–14 day outlooks place Iowa near the transition zone between these two air masses.

As a result, Iowa can expect periodic cold snaps along with brief milder breaks during the period. Overall temperatures are expected to average near to slightly below normal.

This type of pattern often supports an active storm track across the central United States, which means additional chances for snowfall as weather systems move through the region. At this time, no prolonged deep freeze is indicated, but there is also no signal for sustained spring-like warmth…
