About 250 Iowa National Guard soldiers returning home this weekend

DES MOINES, Iowa — About 250 Iowa National Guard soldiers are arriving back in the U.S. this weekend as part of a phased return from their deployment in support of Operation Inherent Resolve, according an IANG release.

The soldiers, assigned to the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 34th Infantry Division, worked alongside partners to “significantly reduce the capabilities of ISIS in Iraq and Syria,” the IANG release says.

Some soldiers and units have completed their assigned missions are beginning a phased redeployment home. Others will remain deployed to continue supporting partners in the region and provide base security…
