Des Moines street turns into demolition derby after OWI crash

DES MOINES, Iowa — A Des Moines neighborhood became a demolition derby on Monday afternoon after police said an intoxicated driver struck at least two homes and three vehicles.

Officers with the Des Moines Police Department were first called to the 700 block of Southeast 26th Court on a report of a hit-and-run crash. Police quickly learned it was a series of hit-and-run crashes.

Ra Kua, 44, the driver involved in the incident, has been charged with operating while intoxicated and failure to maintain control. Police said his blood-alcohol level was more than three times the legal limit, which is .08.
