Second state-university tuition freeze bill moves through Iowa House subcommittee

An Iowa House subcommittee moved ahead legislation Tuesday to freeze tuition for first-year resident undergraduate students, with an amendment incoming.

House Study Bill 549 would require state universities to halt tuition increases for resident undergraduate students entering their first year during or after 2027. It differs from similar legislation to freeze tuition for all undergraduate students that already passed out of the Iowa House Higher Education Committee.
