If this story of a Des Moines’ woman’s childbirth were to be a plot in a movie, most of us would call it unbelievable, incredulous, or simply “Hollywood.” And yet, low and behold, it is a stranger-than-fiction story.
A story originally reported by KCCI that has since been picked up by national websites such as People, the story of Onyx King Easterlie is one that began probably unlike any other. Her mother, Amethyst Blumberg, gave birth to her at a FedEx facility in Grimes. The kicker? Amethyst didn’t even know she was pregnant!
How a Mother Gave Birth in a FedEx Facility:
Weighing 6 pounds, 8 ounces, and measured at 19 inches long, Onyx was a complete surprise to her mother. Her birth happened near the end of Blumberg’s shift at FedEx, around 8am on January 26th, 2026. Blumberg needed to use the bathroom, and soon found she couldn’t even get off the toilet.
Per KCCI, Amethyst was able to open the door and call for help. That’s when the baby began crowning. When the Johnston-Grimes Fire District was dispatched, Onyx was ready to be delivered. Medics arrived on scene at 8:29am and delivery occurred at 8:33am…
