Des Moines assault leaves 61-year-old man in critical condition

DES MOINES, Iowa — A 61-year-old man is in critical condition after Des Moines police say he was assaulted overnight at an apartment building.

Just after 2 a.m. Thursday, the Des Moines Police Department said officers responded to a report of a person lying in the hallway of an apartment building in the 600 block of 16th Street.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found a 61-year-old man unconscious with head injuries. The man was transported to a nearby hospital where he remains in critical condition, the DMPD said.

During the initial investigation, the DMPD said officers learned that the man was the victim of an assault and obtained a description of the suspect. Shortly after, officers located the suspect walking in the area.

The DMPD said that while officers tried to take the suspect, identified as 25-year-old Sie Jones, into custody he “violently resisted” two officers and assaulted one. Both officers sustained minor injuries, the DMPD said…
