Mother, son convicted in violent 2025 Ankeny home invasion

ANKENY, Iowa – A mother and son have both been convicted of charges related to a violent home invasion in July 2025.

Authorities arrested 27-year-old Gemiere Goodwin in connection with an Ankeny home invasion on July 3, 2025. Goodwin was initially charged with Attempted Murder, Burglary 1st Degree, Robbery 1st Degree, Willful Injury Causing Serious Injury, Theft 2nd Degree, and Unauthorized Use of Credit Card.

The Ankeny Police Department says on July 1, 2025, Goodwin broke into an elderly man’s home and beat and strangled him, before robbing the residence. Court records say the 68-year-old victim “sustained life-threatening injuries” and was taken to the hospital for treatment.
