DES MOINES, Iowa — The Animal Rescue League of Iowa says it aided in the rescue of 33 dogs north of Des Moines on Thursday.
The ARL of Iowa says teams were notified by the Story County Sheriff’s Office just before dawn Thursday that 33 dogs had been located in need of care, approximately an hour north of Des Moines. The ARL Animal Welfare & Response Team arrived on scene and found dogs chained to trees or trapped in makeshift pens.
The ARL says many of the dogs were thin and had dirty, matted fur. Staff on scene found that some of the dogs had no access to shelter due to the length of their chains, and others had only partial protection from the elements…
