Pedestrian struck by Amazon van in Des Moines, investigation underway

DES MOINES, Iowa — The Des Moines Police Department is investigating after a pedestrian was struck by an Amazon delivery van late Friday morning in the Cheatom Park neighborhood.

Sgt. Paul Parizek, Public Information Officer for DMPD, said a portion of University Avenue westbound from 9th Street was temporarily closed following the accident, which happened around 11:45 a.m. All lanes of traffic have since reopened.

The adult female who was struck by the van was transported to a Des Moines hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Sgt. Parizek said the driver of the van has not been cited, as it appears to be pedestrian error, but police will continue to investigate — including reviewing video from the area…
