DMPD makes second arrest after officer hit by car during theft investigation

DES MOINES, Iowa — The Des Moines Police Department has made a second arrest following an incident on February 5 when an officer was hit by a car and another officer fired their gun.

Des Moines Police say an incident occurred around 4 p.m. on February 5 near 20th Street and College Avenue during an ongoing investigation into cell phone thefts. Authorities say that while officers tried to make an arrest, the suspect ran and got into the passenger seat of a vehicle waiting nearby.

DMPD officers followed the vehicle as it sped along an alley in the 1600 block of 11th Street, when authorities say the vehicle struck an officer who was trying to cross the alley. Des Moines Police say a second officer avoided being hit and then fired one round…
