Iowa man arrested for allegedly striking geese with truck on purpose

POLK COUNTY, Iowa — A Huxley man was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly intentionally hitting Canada geese with his truck in Ankeny.

Wyatt Greenfield, 19, is charged with two counts of Restrictions on Taking Game – Protected Nongame Attempt in connection with the incident that happened around 12:13 p.m. Tuesday in the 1400 block of NE 70th Avenue in Ankeny. The area is near the Carney Marsh Nature Reserve.

Criminal complaints filed in the case state a witness saw Greenfield initially stop, but then intentionally speed up and strike two Canada geese with his truck, causing serious injuries to the birds. The witness provided the Polk County Sheriff’s Office with a photo of the driver of the vehicle, which matched Greenfield’s description.

The complaint said Greenfield admitted to deputies he hit the geese, but not intentionally.

Iowa Bird Rehabilitation took on the care of the birds following the incident. IBR tells WHO 13 that one died that night, and the other had to be euthanized…
