Des Moines police arrest man following pursuit, 45-minute negotiation

DES MOINES, Iowa — After 45 minutes of negotiation, Des Moines police arrested a man who had barricaded himself in a garage following vehicle and foot pursuits Friday afternoon.

A detective with the Des Moines Police Department noticed a wanted person driving a car while he was in traffic, DMPD’s Paul Parizek told Local 5. When a patrol car arrived and turned on its lights, the vehicle took off, leading police on a “short” chase.

The driver then took off on foot, hopping through backyards and over fences in the Highland Park neighborhood for what “seemed like several minutes,” Parizek said…
