Make your house a home with local thrifting

St. Vincent de Paul (SVdP) thrift stores are a treasure trove for all kinds of reasons and occasions. Whether you’re searching for a date night outfit, wall décor, table setting, mattress, furniture, or something else, you can confidently walk into an SVdP thrift store and count on them carrying everything you need to make your house a home. SVdP has four thrift stores within the Metro area:

  • 1426 6th Ave., Des Moines, Iowa 50314
  • 500 Army Post Rd., Des Moines, Iowa 50315
  • 801 73rd St., Windsor Heights, Iowa 50324
  • 700 N. Ankeny Blvd., Ankeny, Iowa 50023

Due to their wide variety of items, SVdP thrift stores had over 200,000 shoppers walk through their doors in 2025. Even better, their stores were able to recycle over 25 tons of clothing by reselling donated items.

In addition to having some of the best recycled items to choose from, their thrift stores support local food pantries. This provides the pantries with the ability to serve more individuals with a greater amount of food, clothing, and houseware. SVdP food pantries served 25,000 individuals last year, thanks to the support of the thrift stores. Their goal is to increase the number of individuals served by 5,000 in year 2026, and they can’t do it alone.

How to support SVdP thrift stores? Get their name out there, and be sure to attend their spring fling on Sunday, March 15. All stores will be open from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. for a wonderful day with shopping, great deals, raffles, refreshments, and more. SVdP asks that you bring a canned good with you to be donated to the food pantries…
