Officers with the Des Moines Police Department and Des Moines Fire Department firefighters responded just after 1:00 a.m. to two brush fires in the areas of the 1800 Block of Hartford Avenue, and SE 26th Street and Rose Avenue, said DMPD Public Information Officer Sgt. Paul Parizek.
One of the first officers on the scene heard the sound of an ATV or motorcycle leaving on a bike trail from near one of the fires.
Evidence gathered in the case indicates the fires were set intentionally, Sgt. Parizek said.
