Des Moines Catholic school teacher receives Golden Apple: ‘She made our days brighter in second grade’

DES MOINES, Iowa — A second-grade teacher at Saint Theresa Catholic School leads with faith and love. The special mark she leaves on students led to a special recognition for the longtime educator.

Second grade has a way of sticking with people. Lana Duff has fond memories from when she was a student.

“My second-grade classroom, Sister Vera, and we received the sacraments that year, and that was really special,” Duff said. “And I think that was the year that things started kind of coming together for me a little bit as a student. And that was right around the time when I started figuring out what learning was about.”
