CLIVE, Iowa — A Des Moines man is accused of animal neglect after authorities say multiple malnourished dogs were found in his truck.
The Clive Police Department says officers responded to the 1200 block of Forest Court on a report of an animal abuse complaint on Friday. Authorities say the caller reported a black Chevy pickup had been parked since 11:30 p.m. on March 12 and had not moved.
The caller said multiple dogs were living in filthy conditions with no food or water. Upon arrival, Clive PD officers confirmed two dogs and nine puppies were inside the vehicle. Officials say all the animals were emaciated, and conditions were unsanitary with feces and urine throughout the cab.
The dogs were removed by Clive PD officers and Polk County Animal Control staff and transported to Furry Friends Animal Refuge for treatment and evaluation. Clive Police say veterinary staff confirmed, “the dogs were, in fact, underweight, malnourished and had not been receiving proper care from their owner.”…
