Interstates reopen after blizzard conditions shut down Iowa roads overnight

Iowa (KCRG) – Interstates 80 and 35 have reopened after blizzard conditions forced closures overnight into Monday morning.

I-80 reopened around noon Monday after being closed in preparation for the winter storm. The closure affected the majority of the roadway across the state. The last comparable closure of I-80 occurred in February 2007, when a storm brought several inches of ice and snow to the area.

Why roads were closed

The interstate east of Des Moines was closed preemptively because of low visibility. Portions of the roadway were still covered in snow Monday morning, and some areas were icy.
