Crews battle grass, brush fire in Pleasant Hill park for hours

PLEASANT HILL, Iowa — Authorities fought a brush and grass fire near the Des Moines River in the Yellow Banks Park for hours on Friday afternoon.

The Pleasant Hill Fire Department says crews were called to a brush and grass fire near the Des Moines River in the Yellow Banks Park, near SE Vandalia Drive in Pleasant Hill, around 2 p.m. Friday. Authorities say a smaller fire was first reported in the area Friday morning, with flames growing and later spreading east across the river.

Fire crews report facing some difficulty accessing the flames due to tall bushes, trees, and other timber in the area. UTVs, which allowed greater access to the area, were called to the scene…
