For the second time in two years, Winterset police and Officer Logan Camp are facing a lawsuit alleging a false arrest.Scott Mineart of Winterset has filed a civil-rights suit in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Iowa against the City of Winterset and Camp.
According to the lawsuit, Mineart alleges that early in the evening of Feb. 9, 2024, he was sitting in a vehicle parked in his driveway in Winterset when Camp conducted a traffic stop on the parked vehicle while on routine patrol.The filing states Camp had not observed any traffic or equipment violations involving the vehicle and had not seen any other facts suggesting Mineart was engaged in criminal activity before initiating the stop.
The complaint alleges that after the stop, Camp investigated Mineart for operating a motor vehicle while his license was denied or revoked, even though the vehicle was registered to a third party and there was no indication who had been driving it before the stop.Mineart was arrested and charged with driving while his license was denied or revoked, a charge the lawsuit says was dismissed on Dec. 4, 2024…
