DES MOINES, Iowa — Maggie Spellman and her daughter Selena Lewis know what it’s like to go through addiction. Now both in recovery, they’re leaders of the House of Inspiration, which supports women on their own journeys to get sober.
On February 1, 2026, Spellman turned her dream of helping others to reality, opening seven beds in the house where women can live and get the help they need. Lewis quickly became a co-lead and plans on using the bachelor’s degree in psychology she’s going to receive this spring to guide these women along recovery.
To live in the house, women make their own choice to apply. They must be at least 30 days in recovery to be eligible, and rent is $625. They then embark on a 6-month to 1-year program, which looks different for each individual, while they’re living at the house…
