DES MOINES, Iowa — The Des Moines Police Department has released bodycam video from a deadly officer-involved shooting last month that happened after police came into contact with a suspect accused of stabbing a public safety officer at the Crisis Observation Center at 1914 Carpenter Avenue.
Earlier this week, the Iowa Attorney General’s Office revealed its determination that the two Des Moines police officers who shot and killed 24-year-old Hunter Munoz were justified in their use of deadly force in the incident.

The AG learned Munoz had been brought to the COC on February 19th, 2026, for a mental health evaluation after he had stopped taking his medications from a previous health evaluation. While at the COC, Munoz stabbed a public safety officer, causing serious injuries.
Details released following the AG’s investigation showed officers attempted to de-escalate the situation following the stabbing, after Munoz left the center and came outside. The bodycam video from officers shows Munoz telling police, “you’re going to have to shoot me,” before he charged at officers with a knife raised in his hand.
The summary video of the incident also includes 911 calls and still images taken from security video at the center.
