A Des Moines teenager was arrested early Tuesday after allegedly trying to pilfer vehicles outside a West Des Moines apartment house and then assaulting a man who tried to stop him.
Preston Jaavon Hookes, 18, of 1500 Woodland Ave., Des Moines, was charged with assault causing bodily injury or mental illness and two counts of second or subsequent offense attempted third-degree burglary.
The incident began shortly before midnight Monday outside a residence in the 8900 block of Cascade Avenue in West Des Moines, where Hookes was allegedly “observed by the victim pulling on the victim’s car door, attempting to get inside,” according to court records…
